Nervous About Kids in Your Kitchen?
Where do I start? It’s overwhelming!
It feels like when you bring the kids into the kitchen, it’s gonna slow everything down and be stressful and frustrating. I don’t want that and I know I’m not the only one thinking that way.
It’s actually the opposite once you just jump into it. When you’re first trying to figure it out and making that switch from processed foods into cooking real foods, you are spending more time in the kitchen which you just have to embrace.
But you start seeing the benefits of teaching your kids to cook so quickly and immediately that the benefits motivate you to keep going that extra distance until it just becomes part of your day.
I would just encourage anybody who feels hesitant, anyone thinking “it’s overwhelming,” “it’s too hard,” “I’m not sure where to start,” to start with a cooking class like Kids Cook Real Food™. It breaks teaching kids to cook down into easy, bite-sized lessons that you can do one at a time and teach your kids to cook seamlessly and effortlessly.
When you’re ready to get started, you have a plan and you know what to do.
Benefits of Teaching Your Kids to Cook with Kids Cook Real Food™
What’s so great about Kids Cook Real Food™ is the terminology and the vocabulary that it gives the kids to use. It has been so beneficial and helpful for my kids.
For example, they understand the sizes of measuring cups and spoons, but they didn’t have the vocabulary to go with it.
My five-year-old and my three-year-old daughter call the measuring cups and spoons dad, mom, kid, and baby. They’ve even added their own measuring family member. When we use the 1/8 teaspoon, they’ve added that as the newborn baby.
Want to learn how even the tiniest kids can contribute to the family?
Check out our Preschool Mini-Course, which teaches skills like pouring, measuring, and setting the table. Preschoolers can learn actual helpful skills! And that confidence will spur them on to learn even more.
When’s the Best Time to Teach Your Kids to Cook?
I prefer doing Kids Cook Real Food™ on the weekends because we can make it more of a relaxing activity and not feel like we have to get to the next thing.
One tip Katie gives is to schedule cooking class before an already planned lunch or dinner.
We pick either lunch or dinner depending on what the class is on and what we make will be our meal for that day. The kids know that they’re making the meal that day.

Teaching Your Kids to Cook with Multiple Ages
It’s been easy to implement because Kids Cook Real Food™ is so easy to do. I have two kids in beginner and two kids in intermediate.
The videos are short enough that we can watch all three videos back to back. They’re just the perfect length, and then we get into the kitchen all together.
The other tip Katie gave that’s been so helpful is having the younger kids who are shorter work at the kitchen table and the bigger kids use the kitchen island. That’s been helpful because it gives us enough space to spread out but all work at the same time still.
From start to finish, watching the videos, getting in the kitchen, and making the food is about an hour and we just plan it an hour before we’re going to eat.
Kids don’t need plastic knives. They need real skills.
Teach safe technique, focus, and confidence in the all-time fav lesson from our kids cooking class! (ages 2-12)

Bring the kids in the kitchen. It is so well well worth the effort.
I’m watching my kids’ palates change. Our kids’ taste buds have completely altered in so many positive ways. They prefer fresh fruits and vegetables over processed foods. They eat soups and salads and salmon.
They eat so many foods that I never touched as a kid and they eat them on a regular basis and they enjoy it!
