Today, I’m sharing a member story from Jenna, mom of 4 who used Kids Cook Real Food™ to teach her kids to cook so that they wouldn’t be as clueless as she was as a young adult.
If you want to set them up for a healthy adulthood, teaching your kids to cook is vital.
Here’s Jenna with her story:

I was not brought up in a home where I learned how to cook, so I had zero cooking skills as a kid and early on when we first got married.
Several years ago, when my husband and I decided to change our diet and get away from processed food and start cooking from scratch, it was overwhelming. It was a big lifestyle change for us, and we had to figure all that out, while already having kids.

Why Teach Kids to Cook When it’s Already Feeling Hard?
There are so many reasons why we wanted to start teaching our kids to cook. We wanted them to learn the life skill of cooking. I don’t want them to have to fumble in their early adulthood trying to figure out what it means to cook.
I want them to leave our home already prepared, knowing how to find healthy foods at the grocery store, and knowing how to put together a grocery list and a meal plan.
I want them to have the skills to get into the kitchen and cook confidently and not feel like they have to go to college or their first job and just do a fast-food drive-through or grab processed foods. I don’t want that for them.
I love that with Kids Cook Real Food™ we’re teaching them those skills that they can use now, which is super helpful for me in the moment, but also fulfills that long-term vision of setting them up for success in the future. I completely love that vision.
Teaching Kids to Cook: Short Term Benefits
The kids are in the kitchen with me all the time now. We call it kitchen helper, and they rotate who’s kitchen helper for each meal.
My 8-year-old daughter absolutely loves cracking eggs. Any chance she has to crack an egg, she says, “Can I do that Mom? Can I do that?” She completely does it herself. She cleans up the mess. She washes her hands when she’s done. I mean, the whole process.
My 5-year-old son loves all the stirring. Whenever he stirs, he always goes, “I’m going ’til it’s uniform, Mom, I’m going to go ’til it’s uniform.” and,” I’m doing the pogo stick or the merry-go-round.”
Kids don’t need plastic knives. They need real skills.
Teach safe technique, focus, and confidence in the all-time fav lesson from our kids cooking class! (ages 2-12)
My older two (ages 10 and 8) have done the sharp knife class already and for them to be able to get the sharp knives and use those was a very big deal. They love to cut whatever they can, whether it’s mushrooms or strawberries.
What was so great about your class is the terminology and the vocabulary that you give the kids to use. It’s so beneficial and helpful for them.
My kids love to be useful and they love to do important things. When they’re in the kitchen, they’re contributing and doing something that we get to immediately benefit from when we eat it.

Future-Proofing Your Kids’ Health by Teaching Them to Cook
I love how Kids Cook Real Food™ is giving my kids a vision of the amount of work that goes into a kitchen and teaching them that it’s just part of our daily routine. They’re a part of that and they like doing it. I love how that’ll just be normal for them when they grow up which was not my experience with food.
I was very detached from food as a kid. I wasn’t a part of the process of making it, and my mom didn’t cook from scratch so we just had a lot of processed foods.
I love how your class is empowering my kids to get in the kitchen confidently. It’s building traditions for them. This is something to that.
We plan to get into the kitchen, and we have to make that extra 30 minutes to an hour before dinner to prep and peel the vegetables and do all that prep work that is time-consuming.
When it’s just part of your daily routine, and they are enjoying it so much at this age, I really am hopeful that this will just continue on, that they’ll just always enjoy it, and that will help them when they’re on their own, and I absolutely love that, because I desire for them to have that long-term vision of what food is.

Kids Who Cook Real Food Enjoy Healthy Food
It is so well worth the effort to watch your kids’ palates change. Our kids’ tastebuds and their palates have completely altered and changed in so many positive ways.
Our kids prefer fresh fruits and vegetables over-processed foods. They eat soups and salads and salmon, and they eat so many foods that I never touched as a kid. They eat them on a regular daily and weekly basis. They enjoy it!
You do have to change your mindset. You have to make that mental shift of “this is a lifestyle change we’re making, the benefit is worth it.”
It’s good for our bodies, our kids’ bodies, and for the long-term vision of how we want them to grow up and be able to make those choices when they’re adults.
I love Jenna’s story and her vision for her kids’ future health. Teaching kids life skills like cooking is something I’m passionate about!
