bowl of hummus blended

NO food processor (or adults) needed for this healthy snack! My kids will show you how easy homemade hummus is and how they even cut the veggies to go with it.

Healthy Snack Kids Can Make

Hummus and veggies are a great healthy snack! It contains protein, fat, and carbs for a balanced and long-lasting snack. When you eat fat with your raw veggies you actually increase the nutritional uptake!

Homemade hummus is really easy, much cheaper than store-bought and you can avoid processed oils often found in pre-made hummus.

Blender Hummus Recipe

Ingredients

Directions

  • Add all ingredients except the chickpeas to a blender.
  • Puree until garlic is minced and liquid is combined.
  • Add half of the chickpeas and blend until smooth. Add last of chickpeas and blend until smooth.
  • Add more bean water to thin out hummus as needed. You may have to use a spatula to scrape the sides and bottom to make sure all the chickpeas are pureed.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning, as needed.
  • Store in the fridge for a week or freeze for up to three months in an airtight container.

“Mooooom, I’m hungry!!”

How many times do your kids ask for snacks each day? Wouldn’t it be a relief if they were empowered to prepare their own snacks, instead of coming to you and whining about how hungry they are?

Recipe Notes

  • Want to try homemade tahini? Just blend toasted sesame seeds with a couple of tablespoons of oil. If you’ve ever made homemade nut butter, it’s exactly the same thing. You’ll need a high-powered blender or a food processor though.
  • Note: If using a food processor, you can add the first half of the chickpeas to the liquid ingredients in the first step.
