#LifeSkillsNow Mini-Series: Fuel Your Brain with Smart Snacks

Your Kid Gets Hungry at 3:30. Let Them Be the One Who Fixes It.

10 short workshops where kids make the snack themselves, from two-ingredient gelatin to no-bake granola bars.

The Stretch Between School and Dinner Is Where Good Intentions Go to Die

More than any other topic, parents ask me for advice on how to feed kids between meals and on the go. It makes sense. Your kid walks in starving at 3:30, you’re in the middle of something, and whatever takes the least effort wins.

Then it happens again at 8:15 on a Saturday, and again in the car on the way to practice.

This series flips who solves it. Ten short workshops, taught straight to your kid, where they make the snack: no-bake granola bars, homemade salsa, ranch dip, bliss balls, gluten-free chocolate donuts, hard cooked eggs, and Leah’s two-ingredient gelatin. Two more sessions teach them how to read a nutrition label and how to build a snack that actually holds them through practice.

My kids couldn’t wait to make these snacks, they got started right away and followed along the video. We loved that they were able to make them independently and put their own spins on each snack based on their likes. They were also encouraged to try something that they weren’t sure they liked.

Why Fuel Your Brain with Smart Snacks?

Snack food is where the most processed stuff sneaks into an otherwise decent week. Telling a kid that does nothing. Handing them seven recipes they can pull off alone does quite a bit.

  • Short videos (2 to 30 minutes) your kid can watch and follow without you hovering
  • Ten voices, including a holistic pediatrician, a board-certified holistic nutritionist, a functional nutrition practitioner who coaches athletes, a plant-based chef, and Katie’s daughter Leah
  • Recipes built from real ingredients, with printable recipe cards for every one
  • A real-world mission at the end of every workshop, so the recipe leaves the screen and lands on your counter
  • A one-time purchase with no subscription, and it’s yours to keep

I found it very easy for a pre-teen like myself to make the jello. The directions were simple and to the point, and I had fun. In the end, the jello tasted great!

What Your Kid Will Be Able to Make

After this series, your kid can walk into the kitchen and produce:

  • No-bake granola bars that taste like dessert and hold until dinner
  • Homemade gelatin and finger gellies from juice and gelatin, two ingredients, cookie-cutter shapes optional
  • A rainbow smoothie, cocoa-nutty nuggets, and a parfait
  • High-protein pumpkin muffins, plus the know-how to pair one with something else so it lasts through practice
  • Fresh salsa in a food processor
  • Hard cooked eggs three ways, and the trick for telling a raw egg from a cooked one
  • Homemade ranch, for dressing or for dip, in about two minutes
  • Gluten-free chocolate donuts (or cupcakes, same batter)
  • Bliss balls rolled in whatever toppings they want to roll them in

And two things that aren’t recipes. Your kid will be able to read a food label and say what the sugar number actually means, and they’ll know how to build a snack that combines protein, fat, and fiber instead of just sugar.

You have time to decide what you love! Let your kid make a couple of the recipes, see whether the granola bars actually get made twice, and if you don’t love it let us know within 30 days of purchase and we’ll give you a full refund.

You have unlimited access to all the content, so even if your kid watches every workshop and you still ask for a refund, we’d give it to you because we believe in this collection so much. That’s our risk, but we trust you probably won’t do that. It’s just important to us that you understand how much care we’ve put into this.

We loved the realness of the video. She showed what mistakes might happen in the process; however, she did not give up. We loved that there are options.

The Secret to Getting Taller, Stronger, and Smarter (a Pediatrician Talks About Food Labels)
with Dr. Ana-Maria Temple, MD, ages 5-teen, 30 min
Two food games, then a straight-shooting look at how much sugar is really in the stuff kids drink and eat, and how to read the label yourself. The longest session and the only one with no recipe. Younger kids will need help with the worksheet.

Ten workshops. Two hours and 14 minutes. A kid who can feed themselves something decent.

What does a workshop feel like?

1. Watch a Short Video
Most run 15 minutes or less. Your kid can watch one and start cooking before you’ve finished the dishes.

2. Optional: Print the Recipe
Every workshop comes with a printable recipe or handout, which means your kid can make it again next week without asking you to find the video.

3. Try the Mission in Real Life
Each workshop ends with one specific thing to go do. Usually that means making the snack and feeding it to somebody.

With the Fuel Your Brain with Smart Snacks Mini-Series, the answer to “I’m hungry” stops being your problem to solve.

Got Questions? Here are Your Answers:

Who watches these, my kid or me?

Your kid. Every workshop is taught to kids, and eight of the ten end with them making something. You’re welcome to watch along, and you’ll probably want to for Dr. Temple’s food label session, but the videos don’t need you in the room.

What ages is this for?

Nine of the ten are recommended for ages 5 through teen. The workshop on building a snack that actually holds you is for 12 and up. Honest note about the 5-year-olds: most aren’t independent in the kitchen yet, and several of these recipes involve a hot stovetop, a sharp knife, or a food processor. Little ones make great sous chefs. Use your judgment.

Do we need special equipment?

Mostly no. The salsa workshop uses a food processor, the donuts want a donut or cupcake pan, and the egg workshop shows an Instant Pot method alongside the stovetop and oven versions. Everything else is bowls, a pot, and hands.

We have food allergies. Will this work?

Partly. Several recipes call for nut butter, eggs, or dairy. The donuts are gluten free by design, the gelatin is juice plus gelatin, and the salsa and hard cooked eggs are naturally free of gluten and nuts. One mom told us the homemade gelatin was a win specifically because her kid reacts to food dyes.

How long are the videos?

Between 2 and 30 minutes, two hours and 14 minutes for the whole set. Dr. Temple’s food label session is the long one at 30 minutes, and it’s a talk rather than a recipe. Everything else is 21 minutes or less.

How do I watch the workshops?

In a private, ad-free membership area you can get to anytime. Videos are downloadable so you can watch offline, and every workshop includes a printable and a mission.

Do I get to keep it?

Yes! It’s a one-time purchase with no subscription, and your access never expires. The kid who makes granola bars with help at 7 will make them alone at 11.

What if I already own a full Season of #LifeSkillsNow?

The #LifeSkillsNow Mini-Series are pulled straight from previous Seasons, so if you already own one or more, chances are you have some of these workshops already. This series draws from Seasons 1, 2, and 3.
